Recoiling Memory of Home
About the exhibition
This exhibition brings together my work and the work of Eythar Gubara. We are two Sudanese artists, and our friendship and creative dialogue began in Sudan and continue today in Germany.
Separated from our homeland yet connected by memory, we explore together what remains when a place becomes distant but never truly disappears. Through photography, film and visual storytelling, we revisit fragments of home: familiar voices, inherited stories, forgotten landscapes, and the intimate memories carried within the body.
The exhibition is not only about migration; it is also about belonging. It reflects on how identity is shaped by movement, how memories travel across borders, and how friendship can become a home in itself.
Drawing from our personal experiences as Sudanese women living in the diaspora, we create a space where past and present meet. Our works weave together stories of longing, resilience, love, loss and transformation, inviting viewers to reflect on their own connections to place, memory and community.
At its heart, the exhibition is a conversation between two artists whose journeys began in the same homeland and continue along different paths. Together we ask a simple yet profound question: what does it mean to carry home within us?
Through images and moving pictures, the exhibition becomes an archive of memory, a bridge between our lives in Sudan and in Germany.
